[Carol Schiller](https://twitter.com/CarolSchiller) invited me to talk SEO copywriting at her class on Saturday. It was great fun, replete with Capybara.

I focused on The Blank Sheet Of Paper Test:

“Will this content, shown on a blank sheet of paper, make sense to a stranger?”

If you write to pass the BSOPT (my clever abbreviation, what do you think?), you’re writing optimized copy.

Here are my slides:

<iframe class="speakerdeck-iframe" frameborder="0" src="https://speakerdeck.com/player/010a7dfa31b74a01b655403bedd375ad" title="SEO Copywriting: The Blank Sheet Of Paper Test" allowfullscreen="true" style="border: 0px; background: padding-box padding-box rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.1); margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border-radius: 6px; box-shadow: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.2) 0px 5px 40px; width: 100%; height: auto; aspect-ratio: 560 / 315;" data-ratio="1.7777777777777777"></iframe>

Also, I wrote a blog post about it! [Look over here](/writing/seo-101-the-blank-sheet-of-paper-test/). If you’re about to point out that this link fails the BSOPT, you’re right. Remember, it’s more of a guideline, really.
